Great Ocean Road – Airey’s Inlet

Airey’s Inlet was near the beginning of our Great Ocean Road trek, but was a town that had some great highlights.

The first was Split Point Lighthouse, which dates back to 1891 is perched high atop the rocky cliffs of Airey’s Inlet. It had some great views and walking trails down to scenic overlooks.

And really, who wants to miss an opportunity for some lighthouse pictures (and a chance to get Jack out of the car to run around and burn off some post-lunch energy)! And can we seriously talk about how my husband and son have clearly become long-legged twins all of a sudden?!

The other spot that we loved at Airey’s Inlet was a place called Mouth Beach or what I referred to as the Garden of Eden because that’s completely what my first view of it made me think of. It just looked like pure perfection!

It was tucked away in a quiet little inlet below the lighthouse. Jack loved climbing over the huge rock formations to get to the beach area and running around looking for shells.

It was a little chilly and windy, but we had the whole beach to ourselves and loved getting to explore!
