It’s the little things

We returned from a long day of sightseeing in Sydney one evening to have dinner in Manly Beach. We decided upon a little Italian restaurant, deVita, which had been recommended to us by one of the locals.

Their specialty is Napolitan pizza and their pizza oven was even made in Naples, so clearly they take their pizza very seriously! Jack became fascinated by the pizza making process that you could see behind the main bar. There was an older gentleman sitting at the bar and Jack went up and sat next to him to watch the pizzas being made. The old man spoke Italian so he and Jack didn’t really speak much, but they just smiled at each other and both seemed lost in fascination while they watched.

Different ages, different languages…same fascination with the art of pizza

The pizza lived up to the hype and was absolutely phenomenal! Jack ate an entire pizza by himself, which never happens!

After dinner, he asked it he could speak to the chef and told him it was the best pizza of his entire life. He spoke very little English and one of the servers had to translate to Italian for him. You should have seen the chefs face light up! We learned his name was Carmine.

We fired up a quick translator app before we left and Jack looked up how to say, “The meal and service were fantastic!” Jack definitely won a few new friends that night, oh and he also “won” a dessert on the house made by his new buddy…wow!

Jack’s insane, custom made dessert!

Jack insisted that we go back a few nights later and this time Carmine even let him get in on the pizza-making action and he got to fire his own pie!

Thanks so much to Carmine and the rest of the crew at deVita for giving Jack such a great experience. I love little moments like this about our trip that I know Jack will remember for a long time to come!
