After taking the interisland ferry from Wellington to the south island of New Zealand, our first stop was Picton. We made it in on the ferry around 8pm in the evening and got a campsite at a local holiday park.
We got into Picton on December 14th. In case you haven’t picked up on it by now, based on the fact that pretty much every shirt Jack has on in pictures is a Star Wars shirt, the Star Wars thing is kind of a big deal in our family. December 15th was the premiere of Rogue One. About the only concern Jack has ever raised about this trip was when we were very early in the planning stages and he piped up with a, “GASP…what if we miss Rogue One when it comes out???”
So, here we are in Picton, New Zealand (population 4,500) at the only movie theater in town at 9am on December 15th waiting in line (there was no line…it was just us) for the 9:30 showing. The movie theater held only 30 people and we were the only ones there. And by movie “theater”, it was just two rooms in the back of the local aquarium. The upside was that not only did we get a movie, but also a quick tour of some tiny blue penguins on the way to our seats!
Oh and in case you were wondering, the movie did not disappoint!
